Ethics & Sustainability

These words get thrown around a lot these days. We are truly making a conscious effort to run our business in an ethical and sustainable way.

We believe that every child deserves to be able to see themselves reflected in our world. We owe this to them, and we continually work to improve diversity within our brand. We support Black Lives Matter, and we are advocates for Indigenous and LGBTQ+ rights, while working to be better allies.

Giving Back

As part of our Summer 21 Collection, we have developed our exclusive limited edition Diversity print to highlight the beauty in all of us. As part of this initiative we are donating 10% of every sale to:

In numerous Indigenous communities across Canada, the tap water is not safe to drink.
Water First is Canada's leading charitable organization dedicated to working with Indigenous communities to build capacity locally, collaborating to address both drinking water and environmental concerns.
Through education, training and meaningful collaboration, Water First is supporting sustainable water systems to last generations.

Manufacturing

Every Little Thunder product is proudly cut and sewn in Calgary, AB at Ereau Manufacturing - a local, female, Indigenous owned company. By choosing local we are able to support the local economy and work with partners who ensure skilled workers are paid a living wage and are provided with safe working conditions.

We consciously manufacture our products in small batches, this allows us to produce only what is needed. Our products may sell out, but we are able to best gauge demand this way and restock as necessary. Please be patient with us :)

All of our product labels are made in Canada by Laven Labels.

Another way we are pursuing sustainability is by saving our offcut fabric that will be utilized to create accessories and other garments. Stay tuned to see what we create!

Sustainable Materials

We proudly source all of our fabric from Kendor Textiles in Vancouver, Canada. Kendor is one of Canada's industry leading suppliers for sustainable fabrics.

All of our fabrics are STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified, which means they have been tested and certified free of harmful chemicals. ⁣

The pigments used for our prints and snaps are also OEKO TEX 100 certified, environmentally friendly, vegan, and biodegradable.

⁣Our TENCEL™ fabrics are 66% TENCEL™ Lyocell, 28% Organic Cotton, 6% Spandex⁣

⁣Our Bamboo fabrics are 66% Rayon From Bamboo, 28% Cotton, 6% Spandex

TENCEL™ fibers originate from renewable raw wood material. The fibers are certified as compostable and biodegradable, and thus can fully revert back to nature.

TENCEL™ fiber production uses an environmentally responsible closed loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into cellulose fibers with high resource efficiency and low ecological impact.

Bamboo fabric is a textile made from the pulp of bamboo grass. Bamboo can be a very sustainable crop to grow as it regenerates quickly.

⁣We have chosen to use both Bamboo and TENCEL™  based fabrics to provide a larger selection in colours and options for our brand. We are fully committed to continuing to reduce our ecological impact and choose the best fabrics to achieve this goal, by choosing us you are too.

Packaging

We live in the era of online shopping, and with that comes packaging. We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint - that includes rethinking our packaging. All of our packaging is either compostable or recyclable including hang tags, postcards, tissue paper, and mailers. To acheive this we have chosen to use NoIssue mailers and tissue for our packaging:

Stickers & Packing Tape

All of our stickers and packing tape are compostable - no need to throw anything away.

Compostable Mailers

Our compostable mailers are made from a combination of PBAT, a bio based polymer which is compostable, and PLA which is made up of plant materials such as regular field corn and wheat straw. Our use of PLA makes up barely 0.05% of the annual global corn crop, making it an incredibly low-impact resource.⁣ Our mailers will break down within 90 days in commercial compost and 180 days in domestic compost conditions, including worm farm compost, leaving no harmful residue behind.

Tissue Wrap

Our tissue wrap is made from 30% recycled materials and is fully compostable.

FSC Certified

⁣The FSC or Forest Stewardship Council certifies that the paper products that make up our printed tissue paper are sourced from a forest and supply chain that is managed responsibly and sustainably. FSC forest management standards are developed at an international level, and are then adapted to individual countries’ legal, social, and geographical settings, through national standards.⁣

Acid Free Paper

⁣Our tissue is made from cellulose fiber where the active acid pulp is eliminated during processing. It is also lignin- and sulfur-free.

Soy-based Inks

⁣Soy inks are an eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based inks, made from soybeans, a renewable resource. Soy inks have low levels of VOCs, reducing air pollution during the drying process.
